Golden Spike Winery & Train Depot
Golden Spike Winery & Train Depot is a proposed addition to a beautiful property in Arroyo Grande, part of the ongoing Norgrove Gardens master plan since 2015, now a dream retreat for train enthusiasts. Serving as the gateway to a nostalgic journey into the golden era of train history, the winery celebrates the artistry of winemaking amid lush surroundings.
Inspired by early-1900s train depots and the client's UK train-conducting experiences, the building blends agrarian and train depot charm. Featuring a unique combination of siding, ornate white trim, wood shingle roof, and a steeple tower, the winery embodies warmth and nostalgia. Replica water towers stand proudly, while large glass openings frame vineyards and passing trains, creating an immersive experience.
The winery's open and functional layout provides flexibility for occupants and winemakers. The east-facing deck, a prominent feature, offers panoramic views and serves as a departure point for train tours. A station master-like room off the deck provides views of approaching trains. Large openings facilitate a seamless transition between the winery's interior and outdoors, inviting guests to enjoy wine while watching trains. Visitors, amidst an ambiance paying homage to the golden era of train travel, experience an architectural symphony that transforms the property into a haven for an enchanting journey through time and taste. Although in early permitting stages, this exciting addition awaits on the Central Coast.
